Starting a Trucking Business in Uzbekistan: Step by Step

Choosing a direction

Before you start, pick a direction. City delivery, intercity runs, building materials, or refrigerated cargo each call for a different truck and client. The choice sets the truck type and your costs.

For a beginner, a medium-duty truck is a practical option. It is easy to maneuver, costs less than a tractor unit, and works in the city and on short intercity runs. Retail companies, delivery services, and small businesses are the main clients of this segment.

Find your first clients in advance. Hunting for orders after you buy the truck wastes time. A starter contract with one or two regular clients lowers the early risk of the business.

Documents and license

Choose a business form: sole proprietor or legal entity. Road freight is a licensed activity, and the Ministry of Transport issues the license. You apply through the public services center.

Legal entities must keep an electronic waybill. The driver needs a license category that fits the truck, and the truck needs a technical inspection and insurance. Track document expiry dates in a table.

If you plan international freight, think about permits in advance. That is a separate process, and the number of permits is limited. Starting with domestic routes is simpler.

The truck and financing

You can get a truck for cash or through a lease. A lease lowers the down payment and preserves working capital. The monthly payment must be covered by freight revenue.

Watch the warranty: 3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. At 60,000 km a year, the warranty runs out in about 20 months. Servicing on schedule protects it: first service at 2,500 km, then every 10,000 km.

Match the truck to the cargo. A truck with excess power costs more in fuel and price, while one with too little power invites overloading. Get a written offer from a dealer and confirm the configuration.

The monthly calculation

Run the numbers in advance. Take the example from earlier articles: cost per kilometer is 7,200 UZS (assumption) and monthly distance is 9,000 km. Monthly cost is 64,800,000 UZS. With a 15 percent margin, the price is 8,280 UZS per km, revenue is 74,520,000 UZS, and profit is 9,720,000 UZS.

If distance falls, the picture changes fast. At 6,000 km a month, fixed costs of 27,000,000 UZS divide to 4,500 UZS per km. With variable cost of 4,200, the total cost is 8,700 UZS per km. At a price of 8,280, you lose 2,520,000 UZS a month.

That is why a truck must not stand idle. Work out the monthly distance you need to break even, and do not buy a truck until you have found the volume of orders that supplies it. Update the calculation every quarter.

A plan for the first three months

In the first months, maximize working days. Cut empty return legs and look for return loads. Register on freight platforms and work with regular clients.

Keep a log for each trip: distance, revenue, fuel, and other costs. After three months you will know your real cost and can correct your price. Moving from an estimate to real figures makes the business stable.

Bring the truck in for service on time, and book through faw.uz/en/services/. To choose a truck, see faw.uz/en/products/, and for leasing and a calculation, see faw.uz/en/dealers/. Before you expand, get the first truck running steadily.
