Truck Insurance: What Commercial Vehicle Owners in Uzbekistan Need to Know
Buying a truck is only the first step in putting it into operation. Before the vehicle goes on its first trip, it is important to understand which types of insurance are mandatory and which additional options should be considered to protect the business.
Mandatory Insurance
Mandatory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners (OSGOVTS, commonly referred to as OSAGO) applies to all vehicle owners, including truck owners, and is issued for a period of six months or one year. The insured amount under such a policy is set at 80 million soums. The absence of a valid policy results in a fine, and in the event of an accident, an uninsured party at fault must compensate the injured parties at their own expense.
The policy can be obtained either directly through an insurance company or online via the my.gov.uz portal or insurance company services, which takes only a few minutes.
Why Extended Insurance Is Needed
The mandatory policy covers only liability to third parties — damage to someone else’s property or health. It does not compensate the truck owner for losses in the event of theft, vehicle damage or damage to transported cargo. For businesses where the downtime of a single vehicle directly affects revenue, additional voluntary insurance — CASCO for the vehicle itself and carrier liability insurance for cargo — helps reduce financial risks in unforeseen situations.
What to Consider When Choosing a Policy
validity period and renewal terms;
list of insured events covered by the contract;
procedure and deadlines for payments when an insured event occurs;
availability and amount of the deductible.
Properly structured insurance is part of an overall fleet risk management strategy, alongside regular maintenance and the selection of reliable equipment.
