Truck Dimensions and Weight Limits in Uzbekistan Explained

Dimension limits

According to Anhor.uz on November 15, 2024, vehicle width must not exceed 2.55 meters (2.6 meters for refrigerated and insulated bodies) and height must not exceed 4 meters. A single vehicle may be up to 12 meters long, and a road train up to 20 meters.

These limits apply to size including cargo. Cargo that sticks out of the body counts too. Check height especially when passing under bridges, overpasses, and wires.

Cargo over the limit needs a special permit. The Road Safety Service issues it. If cargo overhangs more than 1 meter at the front or rear, or more than 40 centimeters at the side, it must be marked.

Measure the load with a tape before you set off instead of judging by eye, and include tarps and lashings in the height.

Permitted weight

Weight is limited by two measures: the truck's gross weight and the axle load. Both are checked separately. Even if gross weight is within limits, the load on one axle can be exceeded.

As a reference, figures from EU Directive 96/53/EC are often quoted: 44 tonnes for a road train, 10 tonnes for a non-driven axle, and 11.5 tonnes for a driven axle. This is not Uzbek law, only for comparison.

Find the gross weight limit stated in the vehicle documents. Before loading, check the cargo weight against the consignment note. A rough estimate leads to overloading. Write down the truck's empty weight and its front and rear axle loads, and use them when you work out cargo weight.

Overload calculation

Example (assumption): gross weight is 12 tonnes and the empty truck weighs 5 tonnes. Rated payload is 7 tonnes. If you load 8.5 tonnes, the excess is 1.5 tonnes, about 21 percent.

Overloading lengthens braking distance, wears tires and suspension quickly, and damages the frame. On passes and descents the danger is especially high. The gain may look short-term, but repair costs will exceed it.

Trucks are weighed at road weigh stations. If overloading is found, administrative liability applies. Do not load beyond the truck's payload.

City and fee restrictions

In 2024, Tashkent restricted trucks heavier than 10 tonnes from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00. A carrier working in the city must build this window into the trip plan.

From April 1, 2024, a road-use fee was introduced for trucks heavier than 10 tonnes, about 1.7 million UZS a year. This fee depends on the truck's gross weight.

So an N2 truck with gross weight up to 12 tonnes is convenient in some cases. Choosing a gross weight near the 10-tonne line affects both restrictions and the fee. Account for these lines when choosing a truck.

Pre-trip check

Before loading, write down the cargo weight and dimensions. Spread the load evenly over the axle. Check straps and stops, because unsecured cargo shifts the weight distribution.

Check that the consignment note matches the actual cargo. A mismatch costs time at inspection. For oversize cargo, arrange the permit and route in advance.
