Category C allows driving a truck. Category CE allows driving a truck with a heavy trailer or semi-trailer. According to sources, a trailer heavier than 750 kg requires the E modification. The driver of a tractor unit with a semi-trailer normally needs category CE.
There is no standalone «E» category. It is issued as BE, CE, or DE and opens only on top of the base category. So to get CE, you first need category C. A missing category removes a driver from work and creates a sanction risk for the company.
With category C you can drive a truck heavier than 3.5 tonnes. For city delivery and short intercity runs, that is often enough. CE is needed for a tractor unit and for a truck with a heavy trailer. If your fleet includes tractors, plan the number of CE drivers in advance. Without a backup driver, a truck can end up parked.
Sources list at least one year of experience in category C and a minimum age for CE. The candidate completes a retraining course for the category. The exam has a theory and a practical part. The practical exam is taken on a vehicle with a semi-trailer.
A medical certificate is also required. Sources say a form 083 certificate must confirm fitness for category CE. Ask the training center for the document set early. A missing document delays the process.
Track document expiry dates. A license and a medical certificate each have a validity period. With an expired document, a driver cannot go to work. Write each date in a table and set a reminder a month ahead. Talk to the driver about it in advance so the renewal happens on time.
Check each driver's category before assigning work. The category must match the vehicle type. C for a truck, CE for a tractor unit with a semi-trailer. Look at the license expiry date and confirm there are no restrictions.
Keep a document table. Record the driver's name, category, license expiry, and medical check expiry. Set a reminder before each date. This is a simple routine that works even in a small fleet.
Qualified drivers are in short supply, so internal training works well. Training an experienced category C driver for CE can cost less than hiring an outside driver. Estimate the training cost and salary in advance. If the commitment is set in the contract, the driver is less likely to leave quickly.
Before a driver moves to a new tractor, introduce them to the vehicle. A short training session can happen at a dealer or service center. Service information is on faw.uz/en/services/ and models are on faw.uz/en/products/.
Plan the CE training for a driver in steps. First check the driver's experience in category C and their documents. Then get the medical certificate. After that, enroll them in a course at a training center. Finally, put them through the theory and practical exams.
Reduce the driver's workload during training. They prepare for both the course and the exam. If the fleet has few other drivers, schedule training for the off-season. For example, when freight flow slows down. This prevents trips from stopping.
After training, move the driver into the new role gradually. Give short trips first, then move to long ones. Maneuvering with a semi-trailer takes experience. Working alongside an experienced driver lowers the risk. Tractor models are on faw.uz/en/products/ and service is on faw.uz/en/services/.
